Dire Dilemma, Ch2Their skin tingled as they passed through a barrier over the doorway, and she couldn't help but shiver slightly. He felt it and drew her closer to him as he called a small flame to give some light and warmth. A small, yet comfortable side cave, it appeared, a tiny little underground stream ran through the back of it, in from the left side and out the right; on the floor, at the center of the room, held a dark spot from ages of fires for light, meals, and warmth.
He whispered into her ear, "We will be safe to rest here. This is the little cave the map spoke of. It is magically protected so nothing can come in. A secure haven for the knowledgeable traveler." He smiled softly and reassuringly at her, his hand releasing hers and gently stroking her cheek for a moment before he stepped away.

It was easy enough to elude patrolling monsters and humanoids by night, but each dawn was a race to find safe lodging till nightfall. Trouble was, many other things had the same habits as the drow veterans. They had to fight most mornings for spaces in damp caves and tight copings, but fighting was the natural state of these hard warriors.

That word remained within me as a constant reminder of my years in Menzoberranzan. Survival could become everything for a desperate being as I was. The very meaning of the word keeps us alive and well. Survival pushes a whole race, or even a union of the foulest and the most noble races, forward towards a common goal. But how much do we risk by merely living? Do we actually survive ourselves in this struggle? It seems such a pitiful concept now that I look back at my young bloodied hands, tainted with both blood of the innocent and the not so innocent that I killed; stained with the blood of the kin that I now fight for.

Blood splattered on his goblinoid armor: an armor that was more a collection of unpolished leather patches put together in an attempt to protect the young half drow. The armor barely covered him, and although he wasn't the biggest in the battlefield, he was studier than most and stood taller than his flat-faced goblin allies. Blood that was mostly not his own, matted his short white hair but disappeared along the strange black strands. The warm liquid alongside the ever pouring sweat that the rush of battle provoked bothered his vision as it fell on his gray scarred face.

Sos'umptu's FavoriteShakti Hunzrin was amazed at how easy it had been to become Sos'umptu's favorite student. All it had taken was to write a particularly impressive essay on the infernal hierarchy of Lolth's servants. Not that the essay was Shakti's own work, of course. Shakti had copied the essay from one of her classmates. To ensure that she had not got caught, she burned the original essay and drugged the poor girl so that she missed the deadline for completing that particular assignment. Shakti was not bothered in the slightest that her classmate had been given a flogging as a punishment.

I still remember the day I died. It was a beautiful day, truly, none of that "rainy" truism that one tends to read about in texts of valiant heroes that gave their lives for the "greater good". The candlelight flickered in the dark room. Another rolled-up piece of paper landed on the floor. A frustrated cry escaped her lips. No matter how many calculations she did, it always ended up the same. She wasn't improving her magic. In fact, at this rate, she'd be called back to Thay with nothing to show for to her superiors, and some other Red Wizard would take her place.

Nadir slammed her hand into the desk. No way was she going to accept that. She'd worked too hard, sacrificed too much, to get to this position. There had to be something, anything!

The gnome was dressed in a low cut lace dress and a pointed pink cap. Her lips were full and sensuous and her features soft and rounded.

"You really need to get up, Mallow," said the gnome.

The accent didn't sound Lantan to Mallow, but then he had lost his own accent, after so much travel in human lands.

"We have to go soon, Mallow," said the female.

"Why must we go?" pleaded Mallow.

Then something horrible happened. The skin of the gnome went black. Her eyes turned red.

"So you have read the contract. What does it entail?" the sun elf asked Breena.

"It was written in very difficult language, Mother. It says that we are to travel on this ship for six consecutive voyages to provide protection against storms, pirates and sea monsters," answered the human girl.

"And what else?" asked Jatariel.

"That was the complicated part. The Church of Umberlee has agreed to a deal with the Church of Waukeen that is to last two years. We are to protect all their shipping. As part of that Renegade Elves ch1 by *Celestialhost

In the House of WaukeenDagestu Baenre stood at the entrance of the temple of Waukeen ready to greet the new acolytes. She was resplendent in her gold robe, but barefoot in the sanctity of the temple.

The young people who arrived were young. Dagestu was not good at guessing the ages of humans, but she supposed that most of them were 12 or 13 years of age and a few were as old as 16. They were chatting with excitement, perhaps hiding some anxiousness about leaving their families.

They were very finely dressed. Most of them were the children of merchants and bankers, with a few nobles and minor princes among them. Their parents were paying massive fees to have theirIn the House of Waukeen by *Celestialhost

“What did you say?” she whispered
Eyes searching, as the darkness swallowed her words. Silence replied, as she groped blindly around her.
What was it he had said? She wracked her brain, trying to extract the words that had only been there a few seconds before. What was it he had said, the exact words, what were they? She had only been half listening when he’d said them.
Her breath froze in her chest as she felt an icy chill stabbing into her back. Muscles in the small of her back clenched and her chest arched outward, trying to pull away from the cold. Pale arms appeared out of the darkness and snaked around her waist. One swift movement of the strong biceps lifted her backward, drawing her into the chest of her assailant.
“I said, watch your step, unless you want to go falling into an abyss and meet a certain dark skinned goddess bitch or that masked one you actually worship,” came a whisper from behind her, the worDire Dilemma, Ch1 by *Poetic-Dragon

Dagestu's PartyThe minstrels had finished their performance, and they were replaced by a group of scantily clad dancers from Mulharond, who performed an exotic routine. Dagestu was not massively impressed with them; she had seen far better in Menzoberranzan. Being human, the dancers lacked the speed or grace of elven dancers.

Among the party guests were all of the wealthy of Waterdeep and many from outside of it. There were lords and merchants, princes and priests, artists and warriors. All of them had come to pay their respects to the beloved Drow cleric and banker, Dagestu Baenre. With both wealth and an exotic appearance, Dagestu was the darling of WateDagestu's Party by *Celestialhost

Auntie TrielDagestu knocked on the thick door of Triel Baenre's suite.

"Come in," came a voice from inside.

Knowing her aunt's rules, Dagestu slipped off her sandals before going in. Dagestu pattered into the suite, feeling the delightfully plush carpet under her bare feet.

Triel appeared, wearing a dark blue dress and barefoot. She had a silver bracelet over one of her ankles.

"You are almost as tall as me now!" said Triel. This was not saying much, for Triel was a very short Drow female.

The matron mother kissed her niece on the cheek and gave her a warm hug.

"Why does everybody have to take their shoes off in your rooms, Auntie?" asked Dagestu.
